What Can Yeast Glucan Do for Children?

How Much Do You Know About Yeast Beta Glucans?
Yeast Glucans are composed of complex, high molecular weight polysaccharides isolated from the cell wall of the baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Since the human body does not generate this kind of fiber, beta-glucan can only be obtained by consuming these foods or through functional foods, beverages, and supplements with added nutrients.
The three most common sources of beta-glucan are grains, mushrooms, and baker's yeast. Each type of beta-glucan has a beta bond that connects the glucose units. The nature of this bond varies by beta-glucan type and strain, which can lead to structural differences that cause large differences in function and potential health benefits.
As a soluble fiber, beta-glucan is not digested but can slow the transit of food through the gut. As a consequence, carbohydrates are absorbed more slowly, leading to more stable blood sugar. Also, it may remove cholesterol along with it.

What Can Yeast Beta Glucan Do for Children?
Industry research claims that daily intake of baker's yeast beta-glucan reduces the frequency of upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) in children by 66 percent .
Children's immune systems are bombarded daily by inhaling various environmental pollutants. The immunomodulatory properties of beta-glucan are beneficial and essential. Not only has it been proved to increase the immune function of mucus after stress, but another randomized controlled trial observed a similar increase in the face of pollution.
As studies evaluating children and beta-glucans are developed and analyzed, results show that a functioning immune system is essential for defense against all invading pollutants. At present, yeast-derived beta-glucans have been shown to have beneficial properties against many of these threats. Furthermore, yeast beta-glucan was found to substantially improve immunosuppression caused by various toxins, making it an ideal choice for children from polluted areas.
In looking at how children responded to stress and pollutants while taking beta-glucan, a 2013 series of studies also looked at how beta-glucan prevents damage caused by secondhand smoke and other systemic stressors. The results showed that children taking beta-glucan had significantly lower levels of a stress response than their peers, even in the face of secondhand smoke. Each analysis of these groups of children revealed the potent benefits of beta-glucan supplementation. Beta-glucan is excellent immune support and may be a child's most powerful health ally.

How Does Yeast Beta Glucan Work?
According to the findings, the mechanism of action of yeast-derived beta-glucan focuses on boosting immune cells. When swallowed, immune cells in the gastrointestinal tract absorb the ingredient and carry it to immune organs all over the body. In immune organs, immune cells (macrophages) digest components into smaller pieces. These fragments bind to neutrophils through complement receptor 3. By supporting the immune system, various immune effector cells can more efficiently do their job of rapidly responding to immune challenges. The final result is that most immune challenges are erased before they cause URTI symptoms.
